Tree Preservation & Management

Emerald Ash Borer Management Plan

By implementing the provisions of this management plan, the City is endeavoring to mitigate the disruption of its urban forest caused by the pending infestation of the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB). Taking a proactive approach to this pest will enable the City to address public needs in an efficient and effective manner. The City promotes and supports the position of preserving and protecting the urban forest within the City of Troy. Read more about the plan.

Tree Management Policy

On May 8, 2007, the Board of Park Commissioners adopted the Arboricultural Specifications and Standards of Practice. These specifications will aide local residents and contractors in the planting, maintenance and removal of trees within the tree-lawn or other public place.

Tree Trimming Rules for Residents

The City of Troy's Codified Ordinance 521.12, Tree Trimming and Noxious Overgrowth, lays out requirements for trimming trees that overhang the public right-of-way.

In addition to City rules, certain invasive plants are regulated by the Ohio Department of Agriculture. Callery Pear trees, including Bradford Pears, were banned for sale or planting in 2023. The state's invasive species list is viewable here.
