The Troy Police Department is scheduled for a virtual site-based assessment as part of a voluntary program to achieve re-accreditation by verifying it meets professional standards. Administered by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA), the accreditation program requires agencies to comply with state-of-the-art standards in four (4) primary areas: policy and procedures, administration, operations, and support services.
As part of the on-site assessment, agency employees and members of the community are invited to offer comments to the assessment team. A Public Information Forum will be held at the Troy Police Department located at 124 E Main St., Troy OH 45373, to allow interested persons to speak directly with the CALEA assessors on Tuesday, August 11, 2020, at 5:00 P.M.
If an individual would like to provide comments to the assessment team, they may do so by telephone. The public may call 937-440-1080 on Monday, August 10, 2020, between the hours of 3:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. Telephone comments are limited to ten (10) minutes and must address the agency’s ability to comply with CALEA standards.
Individuals wishing to offer written comments about the Troy Police Departments’ ability to meet the standards for accreditation are requested to write: The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. 13575 Heathcote Blvd. Suite 320, Gainesville, Virginia, 20155-2215 or email calea@calea.org. Please write "Troy, Ohio Police Department," in the subject line.
The CALEA assessment team is comprised of team leader William Benson, retired Chief of Police for Wheeling (IL) Police Department, and Heather Brouillette, Assistant Director of Standards Training for the Massachusetts Trial Court Security Department. The assessors will review policies, written material, interview individuals, and virtually observe and tour the agency’s facility where compliance can be witnessed.
Once the Commission’s assessors complete their review of the agency, they report back to the full Commission, which then decides if the agency is granted accredited status. Accreditation is for four years, during which the agency submits annual reports attesting continued compliance with state-of-the-art standards.
