Construction operations have accomplished much this winter. The work was only shut down for brief periods.
The project is right on schedule. There have been unexpected obstacles found and resolved quickly to keep positive progress. It is expected that Phase 1 of the West Main Street project will be completed by the scheduled completion date of November 1, 2023. The Utility Improvements project west of Ridge Avenue will be substantially complete within the next month with restoration still to be completed.
All new sidewalks, curbs, and driveways have been completed on the north side of Main Street from Short Street to Ridge Avenue. The bulk of the work has now shifted to the south side of Main Street from Ridge Avenue to Cedar Street. The existing sidewalks, curbs, and driveways will be completely removed. New concrete curbs will then be the first new item installed. This new curb is scheduled to start in mid-March. New concrete sidewalks and driveways will then follow.
Storm sewer construction will again start on the south side of Main Street. The bulk of the work will be between Cedar Street and Adams Street. Storm sewer work on the south side of Main Street will not be as extensive as the work completed on the north side of Main Street. The main trunk line was installed on the north side of Main Street and the work on the south side needs to only connect to the trunk line on the north side. This means that traffic will shift temporarily for the contractor to create connections to the pipe across the street.
The construction in the section of Main Street between Short Street and Cherry Street will begin when the weather improves. The nature of the concrete sidewalk and streetscape work requires better temperatures.
The winter period has been very advantageous to the Utility Improvements project conduit installation work. This operation is 90% complete on the north side of Main Street between Dorset Road and Ridge Avenue. Operations shifted to the south side of Main Street and are 80% complete.
