Streetscape concrete work is underway on the south side of West Main Street between Short and Plum Streets. Each section has concrete removed, then re-poured as soon as possible, to minimize impact on pedestrian traffic. Crews are working around the Ridge and West Main intersection to finish the curb, sidewalk, and curb ramp installation. And, wooden poles and overhead lines west of Ridge will be removed starting next week, as utility companies rewire to the underground conduits that were recently installed--very exciting!
The traffic signal and electrical contractor have started pulling wires through underground conduits between poles and pull boxes. Traffic signal heads should go up next week, although they will need additional materials before going into operation. The contractor will be working at intersections to install the overhead signals, so please be cautious while driving in the West Main area.
Light poles will be delivered this month. Once the poles are set, crews will hand-wire them. It's an extensive process, using about 25,000 feet of cable for traffic signals and 28,000 feet of cable for lighting!
Crews continue to place topsoil and seed areas, and residents and property owners are encouraged to water and begin to assist with growing the lawns to help it get re-established as quickly as possible. Thank you for your assistance.
