The moment you’ve all been waiting for is about to begin! Milling/Paving asphalt is scheduled to begin next week! In preparation for this, a few things need to be buttoned up that may cause some short-term traffic shifts.
Tuesday 8/1 – Storm sewer crossings that were filled with temporary concrete will be excavated and filled with full depth asphalt. Some of these crossings are across 2/3’s of the roadway. In addition, driveways not yet completed and curb areas at Ridge Avenue will also be excavated and filled with asphalt. This may cause some abnormal traffic patterns and potential stoppages of traffic. Motorists should continue to use caution if traveling on W. Main Street.
Week of 8/7 – Crews will be milling existing asphalt and placing new Intermediate asphalt beginning just west of W Main/Ridge Ave and stopping at W. Main/Cedar St. Traffic will be maintained by barrels, cones, and temporary striping while this operation is taking place.
Week of 8/14 – Crews will move the milling/paving operation to W. Main/Monroe St to Plum St. This area has been approved to be closed to expedite the process. Once paving is complete for the intermediate asphalt, a more extensive temporary striping will be applied as traffic will be traveling on the intermediate asphalt until work is completed between W. Main/Cedar and W. Main/Monroe Sts.
Motorists will be driving on intermediate asphalt until the area of construction is completed between W Main/Elm and Adams Sts. This area is where the ‘boulevard’ will be built. It will be an island that includes landscaping and lighting. While this is being constructed, motorists will be traveling in the curb lanes in each direction.
Surface course asphalt will be placed when all work is completed so that motorists can enjoy the new and improved rideability of W. Main St. As always, we thank you for your patience and understanding!
