The Solid Waste Division is dedicated to residential trash collection. The City of Troy collects approximately 9,000 households of solid waste weekly.
The Solid Waste Division is responsible for the following:

Hazardous Waste
Some items are dangerous for our staff to pick up or transport. We cannot accept the following items in curbside trash:
- Household hazardous waste (such as liquid paint thinner, gasoline, fertilizer, chlorine, or garage chemicals). Hazardous waste can be disposed of through the Miami County Solid Waste District.
- Oil-based paint that hasn't been dried. Allow the paint to dry out, or mix it with sawdust or kitty litter before putting in the trash. Or, contact the Miami County Solid Waste District for other disposal options.
- Medical sharps and hypodermic needles. Contact your prescription provider or the Miami County Solid Waste District for disposal options.
- Batteries and fluorescent light bulbs. Some box stores have recycling options, or see options from the Miami County Solid Waste District.
- Tires. Check with your auto shop or take them to the Miami County Transfer Station.

Place broken glass inside of your trash bin.
After you have removed the lids and dried out the remaining paint, you can place the paint cans out with your regular trash. The drying process can be sped up by filling half of the can with cat litter and mixing it into the paint. The lids must be removed so the waste collectors can see the paint has been completely dried.
The light bulbs must be completely wrapped in paper and taped, then they can be placed out with your regular trash. Light bulbs can also be recycled during specific times of the year at the Miami County Transfer Station, located at 2400 N. County Road 25A. They also offer dates to dispose of unwanted household chemicals. For more information about the County's disposal regulations and dates, call (937)-440-5653.
Remove the propane tank from the grill and place the grill out with your regular trash. The City of Troy does not accept or dispose of propane tanks.
