Electric and Natural Gas Aggregation Update

News Releases Posted on June 05, 2025

The Miami Valley Technology and Communications Group (MVTCG, formerly the Miami Valley Communications Council), which represents 18 communities including Troy, is in the final stages of negotiating updated pricing for residential and small commercial electric and natural gas aggregation programs. By sharing purchasing power with the larger region, the City of Troy aims to secure competitive energy rates that benefit our residents and businesses.

Troy's current electric aggregation rate of 6.57 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh) will remain in effect through the December 2025 billing cycle. MVTCG expects to secure a new 24-month contract beginning January 2026. While market trends suggest prices will rise, MVTCG anticipates negotiating a rate lower than the standard electric supply. Since the beginning of the MVTCG electric aggregation program in September 2023, participating households and small businesses across the 18 communities have saved over $30 million on electricity.

In addition to the electric aggregation, a natural gas aggregation program will be offered to Troy residents and small businesses starting with the October 2025 billing cycle. This new program will allow participants to lock in a fixed gas rate ahead of the typically volatile winter season. Once pricing is finalized through MVTCG, residents will receive a letter from the supplier outlining the program details. Information on how to opt in or out will be available in late summer.
