Public Comment Period Begins On a Proposed Cleanup Plan
West Troy Contaminated Aquifer Site

Public Meeting: Tuesday, March 24, 2020
Public Comment Period: March 10 – April 8, 2020
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, working with Ohio EPA, is proposing a cleanup plan for the West Troy Contaminated Aquifer site. The site consists of groundwater contaminated with volatile organic compounds, or VOCs.
“Groundwater” is an environmental term for an underground source of fresh water. VOCs have been found in site groundwater and in one private drinking water well.
The proposed cleanup plan consists of:
- Injecting microorganisms and an organic carbon food source for the organisms (such as the simple sugar compound dextrose) to break down the contaminants.
- Connecting an affected property to the city of Troy water and removing a private well.
- Placing institutional controls on land and groundwater use.
- Monitoring groundwater and/or the potential for future vapor intrusion.
U.S. EPA will be accepting comments from the public on the proposed plan.
