[ARCHIVED] Fire Station 11 Now Active

Fire Chief Matt Simmons and Mayor Robin Oda are pleased to announce that Troy’s new Fire Station 11 is operational. Fire staff and apparatus have moved from the Race Street station to the new building, and all Station 11 calls, training, and operations are now housed at 110 East Canal Street. An open house for the public will be scheduled later this fall.

“This new fire station is safer for us, and it allows us to better meet the community’s needs,” said Fire Chief Matt Simmons. “As our downtown fire station, Station 11 is not only critical in our handling of calls, it’s an integral part of our community outreach and fire prevention programming.”

The new 17,368 square-foot building offers more space for training, living quarters, and equipment than the prior building. The new station features an elevator and other ADA-compliant amenities, as well as conference rooms to be used for training and community programming.

In addition, the new station is better designed to allow for decontamination procedures and provides firefighters with living quarters well-separated from fire equipment. Thanks to a better understanding of the health impacts of carcinogens and other contaminants, decontamination-oriented design has become the standard for safety in firehouses.

Engine 11, Medic 11, a tanker truck, an aerial device, and several boats, pickup trucks, and ATVs are housed at Station 11. Up to six firefighters call the station home during each of three shifts.
