[ARCHIVED] Comprehensive Parks and Recreation Master Plan to Be Updated

Mayor Robin Oda, Park Board President Jordan Emerick, and Recreation Board President Martin Hobart are pleased to announce that Troy plans to update its Comprehensive Parks and Recreation Master Plan in 2025.

The Parks and Recreation Master Plan, last updated in 1991, serves as a long-term guiding document for creating and maintaining park space throughout the city. The updated plan will identify needs for green space, recreational programs, playground equipment, athletic spaces, and more and will set preliminary plans to meet those needs.

At its February 3 meeting, City Council approved an amendment to the City's contract with American Structurepoint, the consultant team tasked with updating Troy's Comprehensive Plan last year. The parks and recreation master plan will be one more step in Troy’s robust planning process, emphasizing the need for quality-of-life programs and natural space in future development.

The updated plan is expected to be drafted by fall 2025 and will require recommendation from the Board of Park Commissioners and Recreation Board, as well as City Council approval, before taking effect. The consultants for the project will work closely with Troy's Development Department, Park Superintendent, and Recreation staff. The consultant team will also seek feedback through a stakeholders' group, as well as public surveys and meetings.

It is critical that residents and stakeholders actively participate in this process by sharing ideas and criticisms of Troy’s quality of life amenities, so stay tuned for ways to get involved.

More information on the planning process will be available soon. For more information about Troy’s parks, visit www.troyohio.gov/parks.
